From everywhere people come to bike on the Withlacoochee State Trail.
My cousins arrived en masse last year for my late husband’s memorial service. They had a chance to explore Citrus County from King’s Bay to Inverness, stopping in Dave’s Cycle World and admiring the majestic Old Courthouse. Among them was a southwestern-born cousin who now resides in a Scandinavian country. Sally is a big cyclist – she even biked from Hamburg to Salzburg to meet my husband and I just a few years ago before we embarked on a bike and boat tour on the Danube River.
Anyway, Sally and Per came to stay with me last winter, specifically so they could bicycle in our warm, beautiful Florida weather and escape their city’s ice and snow. They rode the Trail and they circled through Inverness innumerable times. They also found the Citrus County Biking Map very helpful in finding the most bicycle-friendly/safe streets on which to ride in the county so they could explore other parts.
Who have you met on the Trail from other countries? Canadians undoubtedly, but others travel even further to enjoy bicycling the length of the sun-dappled Trail. Sometimes they just vacation, some become snowbirds and others move here full-time.
