family-friendly RTW Annual Ride
There’s not just healthful benefits from bicycling on the Trail; there are social benefits by riding with a group, greeting other riders and just plain having fun. The Annual Ride sponsored by the Rails-to-Trails of the Withlacoochee, Inc. (RTW) offers a great opportunity for all of this and more. This ride, the nonprofit’s largest fundraiser, has traditionally been held on the first Sunday of October. Due to Hurricane Irma’s impact on the trees and other greenery along the Trail, however, it had to be postponed to the following spring.
And here we are! This is a unique opportunity for snowbirds to participate in the family-friendly RTW Annual Ride as it will be held this year on March 4, 2018! Hundreds of cyclists – of all ages -- pedal along, stopping to grab a snack or drink at the SAG stations along the 46-mile Trail – and if you’re dedicated enough to ride 100 miles, all I can say is, “Wow!” Lunch is provided to all participants as well.
Registration for the Annual Ride is due March 2, but you’ll want to get yours in before February 12 to obtain a commemorative tee-shirt. You can find the registration form at https://www.rttwst.org/annual-bike-ride-rails-to-trails.php . The RTW website also offers other merchandise for sale, including an especially attractive cycling jersey honoring the 200th year of the bicycle.
See you on the Trail March 4.
