Why waste gas and harm the environment when there are so many positives to be gained by pedaling outside in the fresh air, getting a good cardio workout, they say.
There are a number of bicyclists on the Trail who consider biking to destinations such as grocery stores, workplaces, restaurants, parks or even friends’ homes as a mark of honor. Why waste gas and harm the environment when there are so many positives to be gained by pedaling outside in the fresh air, getting a good cardio workout, they say. I admire them, because really, there’s plenty of times where I could check off items from my to-do list through cycling. The City of Inverness alone has about everything someone needs. The Citrus County Biking Map provides guidance for navigating the entire county.
A bicycling couple I’ve known for a decade or more are indefatigable shoppers for previously owned items. Just south of Inverness’ downtown on US 41 two of their favorite places to browse for tools, home décor, kitchenware and the like are the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and Aunt Vera’s Antique Mall. The Catholic Church sponsors a yard sale on their grounds on the second Saturday of each month, and the Antique Mall has a flea market every Thursday. If you pass either business on a sale day, you’ll see tables overflowing with bargains and many shoppers. This couple has also found everything up to and including major appliances at Dudley’s Auction on the other side of the highway (and yes, they can’t strap that to their bikes!).
I challenge you (and me) to find opportunities to keep up our physical conditioning by bicycling or walking to businesses near the Trail, rather than hopping into our vehicles and driving.
